Tallow Music can announce that after 5 years, over 100+ gigs, two albums, numerous favourable reviews and features, multiple radio plays and a handful of awards, Cambridge based my friend irma are 'calling it a day.'  It is time for things to change!  We hope that you will support the band's new project:

17 February 2004 London Gig

The band play at 'Ocean' in Hackney, London on Saturday 13th March as part of a showcase night for TF RECORDS.  More details as we get them... would be great to see lots of people down there.  Expect LOTS of new material and a few changes in the next month!


24 January 2004 The Boat Race to Close

'my friend irma' are very sad to hear that Cambridge's best live music venue, The Boat Race is to "close for refurbishments" at the end of January.  Our good friend Stan is moving on, and the place is being bought by a pub chain.  At present, the new owners would not comment on whether it would remain a venue, but it looks unlikely.  This is very sad news.  Visit the venue website at http://www.boat-race.co.uk for more info, and also a piece from the local paper at: http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk


12 November  2003 The Alma

The Alma, in Cambridge plays host to an evening with my friend irma on Saturday 22 November.  Entry is free, with the band playing two 45 minute sets starting at about 8.30pm.  The band is currently writing new material at 'The Tallow Room' studios, with plans to record a handful of new tracks in early 2004.  Watch this space!


irma news   15 September 2003 Boat Race gig

my friend irma return to The Boat Race in Cambridge on Saturday 20th September.  Support comes from 'Logan' and 'Fashion Under Construction'.  Entry is £5 advance or £6 on the door.  The evening starts at 8 o'clock with Irma on stage at about 9.45pm.

13 September 2003 Andy's Records

my friend irma would like to thank Simon Loynes at Andy's Records for stocking our CD until it closed this week.  Andy's will be sadly missed...


2 July 2003 Best Album & Best Single

my friend irma have won both the categories they were nominated for in the 2003 South Cambs Arts Council / Junction CDC competition. (see below for details) The band has won Best Album for 'apothecary now' and Best Single for 'Butterfly'.  The awards ceremony took place at the Melbourn Music Festival, Melbourn Village College on Saturday 5th July, where my friend irma performed a short set.  Many, many thanks to all who voted online.  Keep an eye out for press features on this in the next few weeks!


22 June 2003 'No Competition' Voting Online

my friend irma have been nominated for Best Album (for 'apothecary now') and Best Single/Demo (for 'Butterfly') in the 2003 'No Competition' awards. The awards are a collaboration between the Arts Development team for South Cambridgeshire and The Junction, and hope to raise the profile of the local music scene.  Please show your support by visiting http://botb.tagish.net/vote.php and voting for my friend irma now.

The awards ceremony will be held at the Melbourn Music Festival, Melbourn Village College on Saturday 5th July from 2pm - 6pm, where the winning bands will be performing live.


08 June 2003 Jenni Downs

Tallow Music can confirm that vocalist Jenni Downs has currently left my friend irma.  Read the full press release for more details.  The band will be performing as a four piece for the rest of the 'apothecary now' tour dates (listed on the gigs pages.)


24 May 2003 Apothecary Now Reviews & Tour

The album is out now, and the apothecary now tour is underway.  Dates are listed on the gigs pages, with more to be announced very soon.

28 April 2003 Album launch / Reviews

The launch gig for the new album 'apothecary now' is at the BoatRace, Cambridge this coming Saturday 3rd May.  Support comes from KargoCult & Ferral.  Those who have received invites, don't forget to bring them to get free entry.  A free glass of bubbly awaits those who get to the venue before 8.30pm.  There will be album reviews / gig previews in The Cambridge Evening News, Cambridge RealCity magazine, Repeat fanzine and The Newmarket Journal in the next week, so keep an eye out.  Also, the guys over at www.localsecrets.com are helping to promote the gig.
