- They have only ever
played eight gigs, but on
Saturday night, Cambridge band My
Friend Irma appeared on
the same bill as two of Britain's
top soul bands.
-
- My Friend Irma were
the winners of the Walden Rock
Competition last week and part of
the first prize was supporting
Odyssey and The Real Thing at the
Carnival Final Night Party on
Saturday.

- "I
can hardly believe we are going to play a
gig with Odyssey," said singer Jenni
after winning the competition.
-
- Earlier
this year the band which was formed only
last November, won the audience vote in
the Cambridge Band Competition at The
Junction.
- However,
according to My Friend Irma, the Walden
event beats its Cambridge rival hands
down.
-
- "The
Competition in Saffron Walden has been so
much fun," said Jenni. "It's
been a great atmosphere and much more
friendly than at Cambridge. We are really
delighted to have won."
-
- Although
most of the crowd at the rock competition
final seemed to be rooting for The Ha
Ha's as the only Walden entry, My Friend
Irma proved to be a popular winner.
-
- This
band oozed energy and excitement with
commercial, catchy dance music. In
addition to Jenni, the line up included
Tom on guitar and vocals; Tim on bass;
Dave on drums and John on guitar who was
standing in for Guy who writes most of
the band's music but was away on
holiday...
