The young meningitis victim from Shepreth whose plight was highlighted in the News has received a helping hand from kind-hearted musicians.

Three bands played at the Boat Race in Cambridge for free, with all the proceeds from ticket sales going towards a vehicle for the family of seven-year-old Jonathan Peacock

The bands - Good Question, My Friend Irma and Jaff - raised £800 to pay the deposit for a seven-seater Vauxhall Zafira, provided by Murkett's of Royston, which is big enough for Jonathan's wheelchair and his family.

Boat Race promoter Paul Whitby, who read about Jonathan in the News, said: "It shows what good-hearted people there are out there."

The News took up Jonathan's case when his disability benefits were stopped because he was coping so well, despite having a leg amputated. On appeal, most of the benefits were restored.
