And this just in... by

- Next
is the second album from Cambridge's My Friend
Irma, which sees them in more ambitious
territory. With ideas that work more often
than not 'apothecary now' lacks a
general direction that would see them recognized
as the quality musicians they are. They
mirror the old 'variety is the spice of life'
adage, but variety doesn't tend to get you signed,
or get you a big fan base - just ask Dub War, for
example. Everything here is built on sound
indie/rock roots, with some tunes getting spiky,
some dancey, some going beach boys pop and others
down a hippy weirdy road. With two
vocalists, male and female, who sing separate
songs, and endless different guitar and keyboard
effects, the CD ends up sounding more like a
compilation - a good one, perhaps, but one all the
same. They are definitely one to watch, and
if I sound disappointed, its because there's
probably better to come. www.myfriendirma.co.uk
