my friend irma
apothecary now press release

Cambridge band my friend irma release their second album, titled ‘apothecary now’ in May 2003, featuring the songs ‘Butterfly’, ‘Young Harridan’, ‘Gimmie Something’ and 8 other cuts.

The new album was produced by the band themselves at their own fully analogue studio ‘The Tallow Room’ near Newmarket.  Like the White Stripes’ ‘Elephant’ album, it was recorded through tubes n’ tape, with not a computer in sight.

'apothecary now’ is a finely crafted 11 track offering that perfectly captures my friend irma‘s peculiar brand of melancholy… psychedelic soundscapes, exploratory synthesonic gurgles & burps and chainsaw guitars, laced with bittersweet fallen angel vocals.

Entertaining, moving, perplexing, taxing, some of these new songs have you tight in their grip whilst others put you somewhere else completely!  Some albums you can let wash over you… Using only one style, you can suddenly come to from a waking sleep and find that you’re into the final track having missed the other 9.  They were there you just didn’t listen. ‘apothecary now’ has a dynamic, a set of changes that can jar you into consciousness.

So, sit down, turn it up, and enjoy my friend irma’s apothecary now
